Few countries in the world offer the rich variety of ecotourism opportunities that can be found in El Salvador. A host of well-trained, knowledgeable guides stand ready to guide visitors in their explorations of El Salvador's fantastic biological diversity - from the estuaries of the Pacific coast to lush, mountain cloud forests where species like quetzals, jaguars and tapirs thrive. Throughout the country, you'll note a seemingly limitless variety of butterflies, including the majestic blue morpho, whose brilliant wings shimmer in the tropical sunlight like a fragment of blue, irridescent sky. Brightly colored birds flit from branch to branch, among hundreds of native orchid species that bloom all year long. Divers will discover hundreds of species of brilliantly-colored tropical fish in the reefs offshore.
Some of El Salvadorís most popular ecotourism destinations are its forested volcanoes, its estuaries, and the National Parks of Cerro Verde, Montecristo and El Imposible. You'll gain a deep appreciation for tropical ecology and environmental planning as you travel around El Salvador, so put on your hiking boots and prepare yourself for the learning adventure of a lifetime!

Eco-Reminders

Stay on the Trail: Do not step where delicate flowers, mosses or plants can be injured.

Respect Plant Life: Do not pull plants out of the ground or leaves from trees. These actions ruin plants and interrupts the food chain.

Let Animals Be: Always keep a distance of at least 20 feet from wildlife. Never come between an animal and it's young or marine life and the water's edge. Keep your voice as low as possible and never shout. Do not remove wildlife from their natural habitat; dens, burrow, caves, nests or tree holes. Never TOUCH eggs.

Dispose of Waste with Care: Always leave the area like it was before you came. Put litter in containers and carry it to trash containers or return to where you are staying. If you see other people's trash please dispose of it properly.

Travel only with Responsible Guides: A good guide is well informed and conscious of the environment. He will ensure that animals used in the tour, such as horses, are well maintained. He will also ensure that his guests will always be on their best eco-conduct.
