Everyone loves the great outdoors but there is something to be said for the diversity found in a city environment.

Getting to know how to get around is an adventure in itself as is finding those special spots you want to visit. Fortunately, San Pedro Sula is not as large as other Central American cities and can become one of your favorite destinations in Honduras.

The city offers a wide variety of restaurants that give first-class service with a dose of Latin hospitality. A walking tour will give you a good idea of the city and all the experiences it has to offer. Browsing through museums, art galleries and exclusive boutiques is time well spent at the end of a busy day.

Only four hours from Tegucigalpa, San Pedro is the ideal place from which to begin a tour of the Caribbean coast. There are a few national parks and forest reserves found just a few hours from the city and make great day trips.

For those visitors interested in being part of the city's hustle and bustle, take on a downtown walking tour. If you're not signed up for one, ask your hotel's front desk for a city map.

The street lay-out follows the Spanish system set up in several colonial cities. Avenues lead from north to south and streets flow east to west. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy. Public transportation is available as are a multitude of taxis. If you're going to take a taxi always find out the rate before getting in.

The downtown area holds the greatest amount of colonial architecture. The metropolitan cathedral is definitely worth a visit. Its cool interior, redolent of incense and candle wax, houses several religious statues that are visited daily by the faithful.
