In the Jungle of Petèn, is on north-eastern shore of the Lake Petèn Itzà about 34 KM from Sta. Elena, on the road to Tikal.

This off-beat jungle paradise on the lake shore is the first low impact-ecological place in the area, it offers good swiming on the lake, nice nature trails (it lays in the reserve of Biotopo el Cahui), quiet times and tranquillity, no electricity, no telephone, no hard liquors.

Shady, rustic hillside gardens hold a little restaurant (mostly vegetarian food) and a bucolic camping area. Accomodations include: simple but pleasant "Bungalows" with bathroon and patio with palapa cover and hammock; Camarotes and Dormitories.

This is a perfect place for birds watchers, nature lovers, astronomers, Archeologists, Biologists, Triathletes, or just plain people looking for peace and tranquility.

Rates rang from US $ 3 for a camping place to US $ 14 for a bed in a Bungalow. US $ 6 for a bed in an open hut. All our beds supplied with mosquito nets.

El gringo perdido is 3 km west to the tikal highway, along a rough dirt road from the litle town of el Remate. To get there ask for a boat in The Gringo perdido store in El Remate or walk three km.
